Can Two Greases Be Mixed?
Can two greases be mixed? 🤔 It’s a common assumption that grease is grease, but mixing incompatible types can do serious damage to your bearings. When greases like lithium complex and polyurea are combined, the thickeners can react with each other, leading to one of two failures: 🔻 Softening: the grease breaks down, loses viscosity and runs out of the bearing 🔺 Hardening: the grease cakes and solidifies, blocking fresh grease and starving the bearing Either way, the result is premature wear and costly downtime. Our advice? Never mix unknown greases. Always check compatibility charts, or fully purge and flush before switching products. Not sure if your greases are compatible?
